Charles Lawson is a seasoned Certified Public Accountant with over 35 years of experience in public and corporate accounting. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1988 and is licensed to practice in Virginia. Charles is an active member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Throughout his career, Charles has demonstrated expertise in various areas. With extensive public accounting experience, Charles has specialized in corporate, non-profit, estate, and individual tax planning and preparation. He has also conducted audits for governmental entities within the Commonwealth of Virginia. In the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo’s devastation in St. Croix, Charles served as the fiscal financial agent for a commercial real estate contractor in the US Virgin Islands. He managed financial transactions for critical infrastructure projects, including a modular hospital and emergency housing development. In his role as CFO/Controller, Charles oversaw financial operations for a 144-bed nonprofit acute care hospital and physician practice in southwest Virginia. During his tenure, he managed annual revenues ranging from $40 to $50 million and a workforce of approximately 300 employees.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Charles is actively involved in community organizations. He served as Treasurer of the Kline Foundation, managing scholarships and endowments for regional colleges. As a Member-at-Large of the Wise Business Association, Charles provided support services to local businesses in Wise, Virginia. Charles chaired the Lonesome Pine Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, leading fundraising, and educational initiatives to support wildlife conservation efforts. He currently serves as a Board Member and Treasurer for the UVA Wise Foundation, contributing to academic, athletic, and student life programs at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

Previously, Charles served as a member of the Consumer Advisory Panel for Kentucky Utilities/Old Dominion Power Company.
